Френды, я в шоке- не ожидала, что будет столько правильных ответов!
На мой взгляд- на старинных картинках бегемоты похожи на кого угодно: драконнов, собак, лошадей- я бы их ни за что не признала, поэтому и дала подсказку, где они водятся.

Научное название бегемота является латинизированной формой греческого слова ἱπποπόταμος, означающего «речной конь». Несмотря на это название, бегемот связан родством не с лошадьми, а с китообразными и, чуть более отдалённо, со свиньями и пекари.

Hippopotamus or River Horse
This is what Victorian children imagined a Hippopotamus looked like. About 1860. There's a rhyme under the picture. Ahem [clears throat and recites]:
"Steed of the mazy sedgy stream,
That flows through Egypt's sands,
Like some grim phantom of a dream
Thy form colossal stands."
