The Delacorte Clock, hovering above the arcade between the Wildlife Center and the Children's Zoo in Central Park, was a gift of publisher and philanthropist George T. Delacorte and was dedicated on June 4, 1965. Designer Fernando Texidor collaborated with architect Edward Coe Embury (son of the 1934 zoo’s designer, Aymar Embury II) to create a brick arcaded bridge between the Monkey House (now the Zoo School) and the main Central Park Zoo quadrangle to house the clock and its animal sculpture carousel. Italian sculptor Andrea Spadini (1912–1983) crafted the whimsical bronze sculptures, which depict a penguin, kangaroo, bear, elephant, goat, and hippo parading with a variety of musical instruments as well as two monkeys with mallets that strike the bell.

It is one of the most well known building in the city, one where over half a million people cross path every day. In the heart of midtown Manhattan, Grand Central Terminal is a pompous building, in the literal sense of the word. It is grandiose, majestic, full of pomp. This is the southern facade which features a clock and a fifty-foot-tall sculpture of Roman deities. The Glory of Commerce representing Mercury, Hercules, and Minerva, was designed by French sculptor Jules-Félix Coutan in 1914.

A 17–foot–tall steam clock graces the sidewalk along the Canal on the north side of the museum. The clock sounds a few notes of "Back Home Again in Indiana" every 15 minutes, with a more complete version played at the top of every hour.
Mike Runyan of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra arranged the music to be played on the clock’s eight brass whistles.
